Following the example of the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes (PSD), said this Friday (7th) that it will “make life difficult” for those who do not believe in science and in the vaccine. Paes said that the requirement for a vaccine passport in the city of Rio is fundamental not only to protect people but also to make activities more flexible and allow the economy to run.
“I’m going to use an expression that the French president used, that the mayor of New York used: the vaccination passport is liberating because it allows for a certain flexibility in the way things work. I’m literally here with a vaccine passport making life difficult for those who don’t believe in science, those who don’t believe in the vaccine, even to protect others. Because the right to life is above these freedoms to delirium”, sentenced the mayor.
Until last Wednesday (5), 92.3% of patients admitted to the SUS network in the capital did not have the complete vaccination schedule. 46% did not even receive the first dose. So far, approximately 29,747 people have not taken any vaccine against Covid-19, according to data from the Rio city hall panel.
Regarding the booster dose, the percentage of immunized people is considered by health authorities to be very low. So far, 26% of the total population are up to date with the third dose. In an interview with CNN Radio, Health Secretary Daniel Soranz said the city does not have sufficient coverage of the 3rd dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to contain the advance of the Ômicron variant. About 800,000 cariocas can already look for the posts to take the booster dose.
Proof of the complete vaccination schedule is required in the municipality since September 1, 2021. But last month (December 2nd), a new decree extended the requirement for vaccination passports in places and services such as bars and restaurants, for example. In addition, to attend nightclubs and entertainment venues, beauty salons, gyms and Olympic villas, football stadiums and museums and art galleries, it is also necessary to present a vaccination passport.
