The right to life of the vulnerable population is an urgent demand, says expert

The lawyer, activist and coordinator of the Policy for the Promotion of Gender and Race Equality in Geledés Maria Sylvia Aparecida evaluated that the position of the Minister of Human Rights and Citizenship Silvio Almeida is of “extreme importance.”

During his inauguration speech, he mentioned black and black men and women, indigenous peoples, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transvestite, intersex and non-binary people, as well as people with disabilities and the elderly.

THE CNN Radio on CNN No Plural, Maria Sylvia highlighted that the fact that the new minister recognizes the existence of these invisible people shows “respect for differences and gives unconditional attention to them.”

“We suffer a historical process of dehumanization, and it is extremely important to bring inclusion as imperative for building a fair, egalitarian and fraternal society.”

The specialist argues that “the challenge for this Human Rights portfolio is related to the preservation of life.”

“Silvio pointed this out in his speech, when he talks about state violence,” he said.

For the activist, it is necessary “to place public security at the center of the discussion, this also applies to gender guidelines, one of the urgent demands we have in relation to gender and race is to think about the right to life of the excluded population, including indigenous people, LGBTQ and black.”

Maria Sylvia’s expectation is that the next government will allow “political minorities to advance and be more represented in the next administrations and governments, and that this will also be repeated in other spheres of government”.
