After some photos leak showing Johnson in the version set live action of “Moana” he confirmed that he will be wearing a padded suit for the project.
Johnson spoke to Extra about his role as Maui in the feature film based on the animated film franchise, and confessed that he couldn’t take all the credit for how muscular he looks in the upcoming film.
“This is a costume that took a long time to put on,” said the actor. “So I’m so glad you said, ‘You gained weight,’ because when you say, ‘You gained weight,’ that means you failed to notice [que era um traje].”
Johnson said it takes “a few hours of transformation every day” to get into the costume.
“We filmed outside and when these photos came out, I was like, ‘Shit, we got caught, because we were putting up, like, walls so there wouldn’t be paparazzi,” he said. “But they got into boats and started taking photos. But I’m glad you liked it.”
The sequel to the animated film, “Moana 2”, is now in theaters. According to Johnson, the live-action version will debut in 2026.
