According to the Director General of the Ust-Katav Carriage Building Plant (UKVZ), which is part of the state corporation Roscosmos, the assembly of the first unmanned tram at the enterprise will begin at the end of this year.
In early February 2020, Roman Novikov announced that a preliminary agreement had been reached on the organization of tram traffic at the Vostochny Cosmodrome. According to him, modern five-section, low-floor tram cars will be used to transport people, and it is also planned to use unmanned technologies. Maintenance will lead the plant.
The first unmanned tram of UKVZ will be as import-substituting as possible. “Three years ago, the share of imported components from UKVZ was 45%. To date, this figure has decreased to only 4%. But we do not see any problems in this: the plant does not have contracts with enterprises from countries unfriendly to Russia.”Roman Novikov noted.
It is interesting that recently a similar project was announced by NASA – the US space agency presented the official transport of its lunar mission. Unlike the Russian agency, the American agency plans to use electric minivans to transport astronauts and service personnel.
