The Russian ambassador left a meeting of the Security Council

Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, walked out of a Security Council meeting with European Union President Charles Michel addressing his 15 members and accusing Moscow of provoking a global food crisis by invading the country. Ukraine.

Michel also blamed Russian forces for war crimes and crimes against humanity, in particular citing reports of sexual violence – which was the subject of the meeting – and calling the rapes a “tactic of torture, terrorism and repression.”

Earlier, in his own speech, Nebenzia “categorically denied” allegations of sexual violence by Russian soldiers, saying they were “lies.”

Leaving the Security Council, the Russian diplomat told Reuters: “I could not stay ‘because’ of the lies that Charles Michel has spread today.”

Addressing Nebenzia as he headed for the exit, Michelle said: “You can leave, it may be easier not to hear the truth.”

“Mr. Ambassador of the Russian Federation, let us be honest, the Kremlin is using food stocks as a rocket sent against developing countries. Russia is solely responsible for this food crisis,” Michel continued.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is trying to negotiate an agreement to resume exports of Ukrainian food and Russian food and fertilizers. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is scheduled to visit Turkey on Wednesday to discuss how grain exports from Ukraine could be unblocked.
