The Russian army conducted exercises on Moldovan territory on the border with Ukraine

Russian military forces today conducted exercises in the breakaway Moldovan region of Transnistria on the border with Ukraine, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced.

The exercise program, which included covert troop movements and grenade launchers, was announced amid international diplomatic tensions over the region and fears in the West that Russia was planning an invasion of Ukraine.

In particular, Russia is accused by the West of gathering tens of thousands of troops on the border with neighboring Ukraine in anticipation of a possible invasion.

For its part, Moscow denies any military intentions, but sets a condition for any de-escalation of a list of demands it deems necessary to ensure its security, especially the assurance that Ukraine will never join NATO.
