The Russian company BitСluster announced that it is launching a 120 MW data center for Bitcoin mining in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

“The facility is located on the territory of the Kilinto high-voltage substation. The commissioning of a new data center for 34,000 Antminer S21 miners with a total hashrate of 6.8 EH/s will take place in January 2024. The transformers are currently being connected,” the company told Bits.media.

Electricity is supplied to the data center from the Hydase hydroelectric power station, which is considered the largest hydropower facility in Africa with a capacity of 5.15 GW.

“The climatic conditions of the area, such as air temperature 12–23°C, the absence of heat and dust, create an ideal operating mode for mining equipment,” the company says.

TheMinerMag recently estimated that miners mined a total of 4,055 BTC worth $170 million in December. Total revenue for the month could reach $1.4 billion. The numbers are already in line with mining revenues recorded in December 2021, during the peak of the previous bull trend.

The largest public mining company, Marathon Digital, is launching a pilot project for mining BTC in landfills – methane generated from household waste will be used to generate energy.
