According to the UBK, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, a resident of the capital was a victim of such fraud. The attackers were able to convince her to dictate the code from the SMS message by blocking her account on the “State Services” portal and sending her a message with the fake number of “technical support”.
In turn, an employee of the “technical support” sent a girl to a specialist who allegedly working in the “Department of Combating Fraudsters”. He told her that all her savings could be kidnapped, and recommended to transfer them into digital assets to a cryptocurrency wallet.
When registering on a cryptocurrency platform, scammers convinced the victim to turn on the screen demonstration on the smartphone, which allowed them to take possession of its means.
Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reported an increase in the number of cases of fraud related to mini-applications in the Telegram messenger, where users are offered to earn cryptocurrency at simple games-“tapals”.
