The Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta, whose director Dmitry Muratov was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, was published today in Ukrainian as a sign of solidarity with the Ukrainian people, while its director addressed his own message as follows:
“We all gathered in our offices early today. We are sad.
“Our country, at the behest of President Putin, has started a war with Ukraine. And there is no one to stop the war. That is why, along with grief, we and I are ashamed.
“In his hands, the general is spinning the ‘nuclear button like an expensive car keychain.’
“But we will publish this issue of Novaya Gazeta in two languages, Ukrainian and Russian. Because we do not consider Ukraine an enemy, and the Ukrainian language a language of the enemy. And we will never consider it.
“And one last thing. Only the Russian anti-war movement can save lives on this planet.”
