The Russian plant Avtotor, which is located in Kaliningrad, will invest significant funds in the foreseeable future to launch the production of electric cars and components for them – this was officially announced by representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
“As part of the addendum to the special investment contract (SPIC), Avtotor will increase investments by 20 billion rubles, and thus the actual cost of implementing the obligations under the SPIC will amount to 32 billion rubles,” the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov officially announced.
It should be noted that the company plans to produce cars on electric power plants not only for the Russian market, but also for export to other countries. At the moment, the plant is developing three projects at once, but representatives of Avtotor do not say which companies are planning to order the production of their electric cars in Russia. Most likely, we are talking about the current partners of the plant – Hyundai and Kia. However, the company’s management is not yet ready to announce the exact date when the projects will be implemented – so far we are talking about the use of the investments received.
On the other hand, the government department said that the first 200 cars on electric power plants from Avtotor are expected in 2023, and the first sales are scheduled for August 2024. This is a very tight schedule, especially considering that the plant has just received 20 billion. In addition, you need to understand that Avtotor is the first automotive concern in Russia that will produce localized electric cars. The ministry also recalled that by 2024 Russia plans to produce at least 25 thousand electric cars and install two thousand charging stations – electrification is in full swing.
