The admiral e.a. Jihat Yaitzi, initiator of the Blue Homeland, said that Greece has upgraded the S-300 missiles and the defense system is in active service, not in hangars of the Greek air force.
Russia upgraded the missiles to the S-400 level in 2018 and 2019, Yaici said in comments reported by Turkish newspaper Yeni Şafak. Meanwhile, Turkey is being sanctioned for acquiring S-400s from Moscow in an unfair scenario, he said.
“Russian specialists came in and upgraded their version. They brought the S-300 almost to the level of the S-400,” Yaitzi said.
Earlier this week, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused Greece of using S-300s to “lock down” and to harass Turkish F-16 jets flying in international airspace over the Mediterranean with Greece responding appropriately to Turkish provocation.
“It is unacceptable for a NATO member state to do this to a NATO member state. NATO should be called to an emergency meeting,” Yaji said, “Once the abuse files are submitted to NATO, a decision must be made against of Greece”.
Yaitzi said that sanctions are being imposed on Turkey while not a word is being said about Greece’s actions. Yaıcı, who resigned from the Turkish armed forces in 2020, heads the Turkish Center for Maritime and Global Strategy (TÜRKDEGS).
