The Sanremo Festival 2022 changes the rules: here’s how it will be

Twenty-four singers in the competition, a new voting mechanism with three independent juries in the first two evenings and the debut of the 1000 Demoscopica jury. For its seventy-second edition, the Sanremo Festival gets a makeover and decides to renew the regulation by inserting new directives and new peculiarities. Sanremo 2022, which will be broadcast on Rai1 from 1st to 5th February and will see for the third consecutive year Amadeus as conductor and artistic director, he starts from a substantial novelty: no elimination until the grand finale on Saturday, which will dampen the competition and the discontent for the placement in the standings.

Another noteworthy news, especially for the night owls who in 2021 fought tooth and nail to stay awake until the end, is represented by the number of artists who will perform at the Ariston: no longer 34 (26 Big plus 8 of Sanremo Giovani) as in the 70 + 1 edition, ma 24 (22 Big and the two winners of Sanremo Giovani that, as in 2019, the edition won by Mahmood, will take part in the institutional competition without competing in a separate section). As for the Friday evening, the one traditionally dedicated to cover, the news is that the repertoire from which to choose will no longer be restricted to the Italian one, but it will extend to the international one of the sixties, seventies and eighties.

On the voting frontfinally, during the first two evenings, the jury of accredited journalists will be divided into three independent voting components: a jury from the press and TV, one from the radio and one from the web. In the fourth and fifth evening, however, the Jury of the Press Room (TV, radio and web) will vote as a single component, joining the Televoting and the “Demoscopica 1000” Jury, composed of a thousand members selected according to age criteria. and geographic origin, who will vote remotely via the app. In short, Sanremo 2022 restructures its structure and, after last year’s success, we have no doubts that Amadeus has seen us long this time too.
