MUBI announced the acquisition of distribution of “the secret agent” in Latin America (except Brazil), India and the United Kingdom . The agreement was closed at the Cannes Film Festival, where the Brazilian film was screened and competes for the Golden Palm.
The title of Kleber Mendonça Filho will also be released in the United States, but under the seal of Neon, responsible for films like “Parasite” and “Anora” .
The political thriller was applauded for 13 minutes at the French Film Festival and received 100% approval at Rotten Tomatoes, an online criticism aggregator.
The plot is set in the 1970s, during the military dictatorship in Brazil, and accompanies Marcelo, a technology expert, who escapes a mysterious past and decides to return to Recife in search of a little peace, but realizes that the city is far from being the Refuge that seeks. The production is starring Wagner Moura (“Elite Troop”), which returns to Brazilian cinema after years dedicated to the international career.
