Erdogan’s close adviser and spokesman for the Turkish presidency, Ibrahim Kalin, met in Berlin with Joe Biden’s national security adviser, as well as with officials from France, Germany and the United Kingdom.
The meeting at the level of senior officials took place in anticipation of the forthcoming NATO summit in Madrid at the end of the month and while Finland and Sweden’s applications for membership in the Alliance are pending, at a time when Turkish challenges in the Aegean are escalating daily.

According to the Turkish presidency, senior officials discussed the NATO summit scheduled for June 29-30 and its strategic importance, as well as Sweden and Finland ‘s applications for membership in the alliance.
Also on the agenda were the war in Ukraine and grain exports across the Black Sea.
According to Ankara, developments in the Aegean and the Mediterranean were also discussed, as well as regional issues such as the situation in Syria, Afghanistan and Iran.
“Turkey will not jeopardize its legal rights”
According to the Turkish presidency, the importance of the Alliance’s solidarity at a time when the global effects of the war in Ukraine continue, as well as the need for a clear stand against terrorism without discrimination, were stressed.
As for Sweden and Finland’s applications for NATO membership, the meeting noted – according to Ankara – that “no progress could be made without concrete steps being taken on terrorist organizations”.
The Turkish presidency said in a statement that “Turkey will not jeopardize its legal rights” and that “Ankara will not compromise on its” legal “rights in matters that concern the Aegean and the Mediterranean, and that Ankara will resolutely pursue its efforts to find diplomatic solutions to regional and global crises. ”
