The share of renewable energy sources (RES) in Bulgaria’s energy balance increased in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the country’s Energy Regulatory Authority. The share of RES increased by 21.57% in the transmission network and by 20.17% in the distribution network.
In particular, in the transmission network the largest increase concerned photovoltaics (+ 39.99%) and then wind farms (+ 19.53%). The largest share in the distribution network belonged to the wind power stations (26.55%) and secondarily to the photovoltaic (22.10%).
Between 1 January and 27 March 2022, electricity production in Bulgaria increased by 21.62% compared to last year and reached 17,174,156 megawatt hours (MWh). Electricity consumption increased by 3.64%.
The export-import balance increased by 192.79%. This indicator is gradually decreasing from the end of January, as the data show.
There is still a decrease in electricity production from hydropower plants. In the period from January 1 to March 27, 2022, this reduction corresponded to 33.5%.
