The ship Ever Given remains stranded in the Suez Canal

The giant container ship that ran aground in the Suez Canal remains stuck and operations to detach it continue, according to the shipping company GAC.

Earlier, Reuters also reported inaccurate information from the GAC, according to which the ship had been partially detached and that navigation in the Canal was to be resumed.

Tugboats and rescue units of the Egyptian Authority of the Suez Canal have been working since the morning to detach the Ever Given, a giant ship 400 meters long and 220,000 tons, which was sailing to Rotterdam from Asia and ran aground as soon as it was hit by air. crossed the southern entrance to the canal, according to the Vesselfinder website.

According to the Suez Canal Authority, the incident was caused by a sandstorm with winds of 40 knots, a phenomenon common at this time of year in Egypt, which caused a visibility problem.

According to shipping sources, thirty ships had been stopped earlier at the northern entrance to the Canal and three at the southern one.
