The video recorded by the security cameras started to spread widely on the internet last Saturday. The incident took place last Monday, February 7, according to Reuters.
According to the New York Post, the birds – referred to as yellow-headed blackbirds – were found dead on the sidewalks by Cuauhtémoc residents.
The birds travel from northern Canada to Mexico to spend the winter there, the report said.
Some speculate that heavy air pollution in the area may be responsible for their deaths, the New York Post notes.
