The shortage of PlayStation and Xbox consoles could be solved thanks to Apple. AMD will increase orders from TSMC

One of the reasons for the shortage of consoles and video cards from AMD is considered to be the lack of production capacity of TSMC. It is this company that makes GPUs for the Radeon RX 6000 and hybrid processors for the PlayStation 5 and the new Xbox.

Perhaps the situation will change for the better in the coming months. According to the source, this year AMD will increase orders for TSMC’s seven-nanometer products by 80% over last year. When this will happen is unclear, but you need to understand that even if it has already happened, it will take time for the increased number of manufactured semiconductor solutions to translate into an increased number of finished products on the market.

In addition, it is not yet clear how AMD will dispose of TSMC’s additional capacity. The company needs to ramp up production of processors for all segments, including server, APU, GPU and console platforms. And the plates are unlikely to be enough for everything. But we can assume that at least APUs for consoles will definitely produce more, because here the interests of three large companies converge at once.

It is also worth noting that AMD will eventually become TSMC’s largest customer when it comes to 7nm products. And in general, the opportunity to increase orders so significantly is formed due to the fact that Apple is actively moving to 5 nm standards.
