“The situation is extremely serious, no one expected this,” – due to a shortage of computing power in Russia, the authorities may seize the data center from companies that left the country

The government is preparing for a shortage of computing power, which in the near future may lead to problems in the operation of state systems. In particular, we are talking about data processing centers (DPC).

Now an inventory of computing equipment of data centers is being carried out, which ensures the uninterrupted operation of systems that are critical for the authorities. In two months, the country will face a shortage of capacities, after which the authorities want to conclude contracts for the lease of free capacities from commercial data center operators under a simplified procedure. The withdrawal of resources of those IT companies that left Russia is also being considered.

“The situation is extremely serious, no one expected this, but the real existing capacities of the public sector will be enough for a maximum of a month and a half of work,” a Kommersant source said.

The problem arose due to the departure of foreign cloud services, which led to a sharp increase in demand for server capacities: “A week ago we talked about the fact that MTS’s demand has grown tenfold, MegaFon’s five times, and Vimpelcom’s times.” Equipment prices have also risen sharply, as well as problems with logistics.

In early March, representatives of Russian cloud services said that due to Western sanctions, Russian companies began to massively switch from foreign cloud services to domestic ones.
