The ski resorts of Austria are evolving into coronavirus outbreaks

In hearths coronavirus the popular winter tourism areas of the west are evolving Austria, as the number of cases has skyrocketed and many tourism businesses are forced to close due to lack of staff.

Only in Tyrol at least 111 ski trainers are positive for the virus, while in the center of Kitzbühel the rate of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days has reached 1144,2, when the whole country is limited to 261, broadcasts by ΑΠΕ ΜΠΕ.

In the Salzburg Flahau, the index surpassed 7.627, with the authorities pointing out, however, that the reference population is the permanent population of each area without counting the seasonal workers and visitors.

In Zelden and Lech am Arlberg closed already the first businesses – hotels and restaurants around ski resorts, among others – due to lack of staff, as a large number of employees have been infected with coronavirus.

Businessmen are worried

The President of Kitzbuhel Tourism Business Owners Christian Harris, speaking to the Tiroler Tageszeitung, expressed concern that the situation would generalize and pointed to the lack of adequate “quarantine hotels” for those who become infected and it is not possible to leave the area by private car.

Mr. Harris also asked for her lifting the quarantine requirement for those who have been vaccinated twice or the imposition of a week of general lockdown for Tourism from 10 January.

It is noted that one of the disciplines that is particularly affected is that of its trainers ski, who arrive by the hundreds in the area for the winter tourist season and stay in special accommodation for staff, very often in shared rooms, which facilitates the transmission of the virus.

The government in Tyrol had made a “strong recommendation” to the ski schools to impose a rule 2G+ (diagnostic tests even for vaccinated / sick) instructors, but the President of the Ski School Association Richard Walter referred to the French system, which provides for a relaxation of quarantine conditions.

As he said, most of the trainers are infected show no symptoms, while in the meantime the group lessons have stopped.

In terms of his struggles Alpine Ski World Cup scheduled for Jan. 11-16 and Jan. 21-25 in Flachau, Chauchenzee, Kitzbühel and Sladming, the Mayor of Flachau Thomas Obereiter appeared reassuring, pointing out that the organizers are taking care to create a special environment – “bubble” – security, with a specific health protocol and strict restriction of contacts. In addition, there will be no spectators.
