According to the latest forecast from analyst agency Digitimes Research, due to strong sales of the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max, global smartphone shipments in the first quarter of this year will increase by 50% to 340 million units.
IPhone shipments will surpass 60 million units in the first quarter. In the previous quarter, less than three months after the launch of the iPhone 12, iPhone shipments reached 90 million units. Huawei will ship less than 20 million smartphones this quarter, placing the company in sixth place.
If we take the previous and current quarters together, Apple will rank first in the world with more than 150 million smartphones, which is 38% more than in the same period last year. Samsung is expected to rank second in terms of shipments in six months, shipping between 120 million and 130 million units.
Xiaomi will climb to third place with 90 million smartphones, an 80% increase over last year. In terms of 5G smartphones, shipments will be 600 million units this year, up from 280 million units last year. Apple, Huawei and Samsung together provide 70% of the world’s 5G mobile phone shipments.
Global smartphone shipments will be around 1.4 billion units this year, up 10-13% from last year, according to Digitimes Research.
