Augusto Teixeira, professor of International Relations at the Federal University of Paraíba, stated in an interview with WW this Monday (21) that the solution to the conflicts involving Israel in the Middle East is essentially political, not weapons. However, he emphasizes that the local government needs to demonstrate a willingness to resolve the situation.
Teixeira analyzed Israeli political objectives at the current time, highlighting that they seem to be more focused on supporting the current government and the political agenda of Israeli far-right ministers.
According to the expert, the narrative of an existential threat to Israel and the course of the war on its multiple fronts do not contribute to an Israeli victory in the long term.
Limited success parameters
The professor argues that the success parameters established by Israel are essentially tactical or operational, and not strategic.
He emphasizes that the political solution, which should be on the agenda, is not being considered.
Teixeira raises crucial questions about Israel’s diplomatic relations: “What is the relationship between Israel and the Lebanese government in a context of inability to bargain and negotiate in relation to the attempted blockade on Israel’s northern border? What is the relationship between Israel and Syria with the Bashar al-Assad government in a context in which blocking Iranian aid for Islamist militias in that region is essential?”
The expert concludes by stating that the solution is “essentially political”. However, he regrets that politics is not being used to build a solution for Israel, which he considers an unfortunate situation for the country and the region.
