North Korea reportedly fired several artillery shells Sunday morning, according to the South Korean military, as tensions over a possible nuclear test soared on the peninsula.
According to Bloomberg, the South Korean military has located some “traces” that showed that the North Korean regime seems to have dropped artillery between 8:07 a.m. and 11:03 a.m. (local time), the South Korean Army General Staff said in a text message late Sunday. South Korea has stepped up its vigilance for further challenges while maintaining close cooperation with the United States, he said.
North Korea held a plenary session of the ruling party’s central committee on Thursday in which leader Kim Jong Un called for more efforts to strengthen the regime’s defense capabilities.
South Korean authorities are closely monitoring North Korea’s provocations, as Washington has said the communist state may soon conduct a nuclear test, which the United States has warned will carry severe punishment.
