The S&P 500 index opens decisively higher, recovers 4,400

  • The major Wall Street indices posted strong gains on Thursday.

After closing in positive territory on Wednesday, the main stock indices They opened strongly higher on Thursday as risk flows continue to dominate financial markets. Backed by renewed optimism for a temporary solution to the US debt crisis, the CBOE volatility index (VIX) is down 4%.

At time of writing, the S&P 500 Index was up 1.11% on the day to 4,412, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 1.08% to 34,785 and the Nasdaq Composite was up 1.15% to 14,669.

All major sectors of the S&P 500 are trading in positive territory after the opening bell with the risk-sensitive tech index leading the rally by rising more than 1% on the day. On the other hand, the energy index is up just 0.5% as crude oil prices continue to consolidate this week’s rally.
