The S&P 500 Index opens in negative territory around 3,550

The main US stock indices opened in negative territory on Thursday after the release of uninspiring macroeconomic data from the US At time of writing, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.42% on the day to 29,320, the S&P 500 Index lost 0.37% to 3,552 and the Nasdaq Composite down 0.15% at 11,876.

Hours earlier, the US Department of Labor reported that Initial Unemployment Claims increased by 31,000 to 742,000 in the week ending November 14. This reading fell short of the market expectation of 707,000 by a wide margin and weighed on market sentiment.

The top 11 sectors of the S&P 500 post losses on early trading. Pressed by a 3% drop in the yield on 10-year US Treasuries, the financial index fell 0.6% on Thursday.
