A 13-year-old is accused of stabbed his mother to death inside her house at Florida. During his trial, the 13-year-old was seen sitting deadpanwhile his father looked on and, as mentioned, she was sending him kisses.
Honors student Derek Rosa appeared in court Tuesday wearing the classic brown prison garb. All he did was nod while his defense team spoke for him. His trial began just weeks after he killed his 39-year-old mother, Irene Garcia, stabbing her while she slept next to her newborn daughter.
In accordance with nypost.com, after stabbing his mother, the 13-year-old called 911, telling the police that he had taken pictures of his mother and sent them to his friends. Now, Rosa is charged with first degree murder, while he is expected to be tried as an adult.
He appeared calm during the trial, but his family members were extremely emotional. Yes, his father, Jose Rosa, was greeting him and sending him kisses, while at some point in the trial his grandmother began to cry.
Last month, Derek’s father called for his son to be given a “second chance”. “I guess what we’re asking for is a chance, a second chance, for to help him grow and mature into a grown man so he can put it behind him this“, he had mentioned.
Now, Rosa’s attorneys are asking that their client be moved to a juvenile detention facility instead of behind bars in an adult prison. “We don’t think Derek should be held in an adult prison,” they reported.
A new hearing is scheduled for Friday, when the judge will decide whether to remain in the adult institution. The murder trial is expected to begin in the first quarter of next year.
