From January 1, 2026, the digital ruble can be used to pay salaries to state employees. This was announced by Sergey Gavrilov, head of the State Duma Committee on Property and a member of the National Financial Council of the Bank of Russia.

The parliamentarian explained that the bill on digital ruble introduced by the government provides for the modernization of the system of treasury payments and transfers.

Payments will enter the usual accounts, so the changes will remain almost invisible to the recipients. At the same time, the new system will provide an increased speed of transactions, as well as the transparency of budget operations will increase.

“Since January 2026, a digital ruble may begin to be used for payments to individuals, including state employees. It is necessary to work out the technological aspects in advance: how exactly is the accrual, how to access the account of the digital ruble is ensured, whether it can be transferred to the usual forms of money and where exactly it can be used, ”Gavrilov said.

A full transition to calculations in digital rubles will become possible only after the completion of the training of budgetary institutions and the development of relevant instructions by the Treasury and the Central Bank.

Earlier, the deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, Artem Kiryanov, said that the digital ruble will simplify the conduct of business in the conditions of sanctions, especially for participants in foreign trade.
