The Athens Stock Exchange is trying to find the strength to recover the levels of 850 units today, which after Friday’s plunge is looking for the foundations to manage the political risk.
In particular, the General Index registers gains of 0.25% at 851.33 points, while the turnover is at 3.7 million euros and the volume at 1.8 million pieces. An increase of 0.29% was recorded by the FTSE 25, at 2,051.41 points, while the banking index gained 0.33% at 538.64 points.
Although the market had made a remarkable recovery from the levels of 800 units, now it is called once again to defend the 850 units and stop the risk off that existed last Friday in the shadow of political developments. And this effort comes at a time when much of the investment community is on summer vacation, except for those who feel they should come back and strengthen their portfolio defenses in the face of political developments.
However, the buyers have not lost the battle and as long as the General Index is maintained above 840 units the trend is on their side. Of course, beyond purely technical terms, the climate will be judged on the new uncertainty that the market is called upon to manage, namely politics. Be that as it may, the next few days will be more enlightening as to whether this uncertainty has a basis.
In any case, the market will wait for the message of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis today, who will position himself on all the issues that have arisen. According to Capital.gr, based on the information so far, the message is expected after noon and after he has held meetings with his partners at Megaros Maximos. The prime minister is expected to clarify, among other things, that he was not aware of the case of the surveillance of the president of PASOK, about which he was informed last Thursday.
