The Stories Are Us, So the theater makes Arthur forget his disability

Arthur arrived in Italy from an orphanage in Mariupol in the Ukraine when he was 5 years old, after an Italian family, Silvana and Stefano, obtained the green light for his adoption. After some time, Arthur was diagnosed with hyperkinetic disorder and a mild form of autism. “When he can’t do something, he gets anxious and can’t contain his anger,” says his mother Silvana. «We hope you become independent in everything, that one day he will be able to find a job, his own path, but above all someone who loves him deeply, who is a friendship, but in any case someone who is close to him and on whom he can rely. Arthur is an only child, that’s our fear.”

Thanks to reality Theater field, a cultural center that has been active for more than 20 years in the Milan area, Arthur began attending a theater course together with other boys and girls with disabilities. The show was born “In a state of grace”, which debuts on December 3 in Milan, on the occasion of the World Day dedicated to disability. It investigates the parent-child relationship, starting from the adventures of Pinocchio and Geppetto, and is the result of over a year of a completely free workshop for families.

The protagonists are not only the children but also the mothers and fathers. On stage, in fact, the lively gestures and words of the young performers are combined with video fragments in which they are the ones to tell their story. These are stories of difficult pregnancies, premature births, adoptions, answers to crucial questions on issues of inclusion, autonomy, the future of their children. Because even Pinocchio at some point has to face the fear in the belly of the whale, and find the way and the courage to grow up. Two performances will be held on 4 and 5 December in Campo Teatrale.
