«The Story of Lisey»: the first trailer of the new series with Julianne Moore and Clive Owen

A shadow from the past, a nameless threat and the need to put the pieces back together before it’s too late. The first images of Lisey’s story, the new eight-episode Apple Original series based on Stephen King’s favorite novel, who exceptionally curated the script, promise a wonderful journey between what is real and what is otherworldly, between what we can touch and what we can imagine. Directed by the acclaimed Chilean director Pablo Larrain which, after having bewitched international critics with beautiful biopics such as Neruda e Jackie, is now ready to be talked about even with Spencer, the new film dedicated to Princess Diana starring Kristen Stewart, Lisey’s story follows the story of Lisey Landon, played by Oscar winner Julianne Moore, a strong and resolute woman who, two years after the tragic death of her husband Scott (Clive Owen), one of the most acclaimed novelists in the United States, is faced with a series of disturbing events that will force her to reopen her wounds that she thought she had now left behind.

The red thread with her husband, with her sisters Amanda and Darla, played respectively by Joan Allen and Jennifer Jason Leigh, and with a dangerous avid fan of Scott’s works, Jim Dooley (Dane DeHaan), a sort of modern Annie Wilkes, will be the keystones of a series focused on widowhood but, even more, on the need to deal with a hallucinated world that calls us back to itself in a clear and decisive way, making us collapse the certainties we thought we had. The series, produced by Bad Robot Productions, the production company of JJ Abrams, and by Warner Bros. Television, will be available on Apple TV + starting Friday 4 June with the first two episodes, followed by new ones every following Friday. It is a rarity that Stephen King decides to personally supervise the adaptation of his works (think of the case of Shining and to Stanley Kubrick’s version that, even today, he continues to hate) and this says a lot about the love and dedication he has always had towards Lisey’s story, a book that has never met the success it deserved, but which for the writer represents a very special piece of heart. In a historic interview given to Rolling Stone, when asked which novel he was most proud of, King replied just that, Lisey’s story: “It is an important book, because it is about marriage, a subject that I had never dealt with before. I wanted to say that in a couple an intimate and secret world is created, but even there there are things that we do not know about each other ». The cast of the series, one of the most anticipated of 2021, also involves Ron Cephas Jones, former star of This is Us, and Sung Kang.
