The story of the most talked about royal family through the novel by Andrew Mackie

In 1954, the coverage of the activities of the United Kingdom royal family by the media was strictly controlled by the Palace. The same thing happened with Queen Elizabeth II’s tour of Australia.

But a small incident that was immediately censored by a television crew caught the attention of writer Andrew Mackie and sparked his imagination about what could have happened behind the scenes.

To help the story unfold, the author in his novel The Tour invented completely fictional characters, including twin brothers, Daisy and Violet, who experience their own dramas while offering services to the custodian.

The 19-year-old identical twins can not believe their luck when they are hired as maids to accompany the lady on the queen honors on the royal tour in Australia. It’s just the ticket they need away from the cold, gray England and the tension created in their home by the loss of their parents.

But the trip with SS Gothic and the arrival in Australia are far from the glamorous adventure they expect and their relationship becomes even more tense when one discovers the ruthless act of betrayal of her sister.

Based on one of the most important true events in Australian history, Elizabeth II’s tour, shortly after her coronation, the novel highlights the rifts and rivalries that exist in every family, royal or not.

Elizabeth II and Philip visited about 57 Australian cities as part of a two-month tour. 75% of the population of the country saw them with his own eyes.

Andrew Mackey is a film producer and distributor, owner of Transmission Films.
