After delivering “Kenergy” in Barbie, actor Ryan Gosling puts the spotlight on people whose job it is to shine on the big screen but, at the same time, remain invisible in “The Stuntman”.
The film is inspired by the popular 1980s television series “The Hard One,” with Gosling playing the role of Colt Seavers, one of Hollywood's best stuntmen at a low point after an accident on set.
An ambitious producer (Hannah Waddingham) manages to pull Colt out of his self-imposed post-injury isolation to rescue the directorial debut of the love of his life, Jody (Emily Blunt), after the disappearance of the film's protagonist, Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor). -Johnson).
Life begins to imitate art when Colt begins tracking the missing star and finds himself in the middle of a criminal plot. The stuntman has to do his best, on and off the screen, to save Jody's film — and himself.
“I have benefited from stunt work my entire career. They come on the scene, take all the hits for you and don't get any of the credit. This ends now. I hope the whole conversation is different after this film,” said Gosling, at the premiere in London this Monday.
“It's completely a love letter to stunt performers and the magic of what they create in films. It’s a love letter to filmmaking and filmmaking,” Blunt added.
Filmed in Sydney, Australia, “The Stuntman” is directed by David Leitch, a former stuntman for stars such as Brad Pitt and Matt Damon and director of “Bullet Train,” “Deadpool 2” and “Atomic Blonde.”
Many of his daring action scenes were filmed with real stunts, and during filming, Gosling's stunt double, Logan Holladay, entered the World Records for the most stunts in a car flipping in the air after an explosion.
The classic stunt uses a device placed underneath a car that propels it through a series of somersaults at a set speed. Holladay's 8.5 beat Adam Kirley's 2006 record of 7 in “007 – Casino Royale”.
“It was mandatory to do some classic stunts and make them as wide as possible,” Leitch said. “The record was written into the script. We put it in the script to launch the challenge, so that the stunt team would find a way to achieve it, and I think they did it”, said Letich, 48 years old.
Stunt coordinator Chris O'Hara was credited as “stunt designer” on the project, in what the creators said was an industry first and a recognition of the multifaceted nature of his work.
“I hope it shows the Academy and that maybe one day we can compete for an Oscar, just like all the other department heads in the industry,” O'Hara said.
“The backbone of the industry is the action film. It is the film with the greatest international reach. It’s time for them to be celebrated for what they contribute,” added actor Winston Duke.
The global release of “O Dublê” is scheduled for April 24th.
