The Ministry of Infrastructure-Transport announced the open, international public tender for the construction of the third section of VOAK, “Neapoli-Agios Nikolaos”, a 14 km long project with a budget of 186 million euros.
The purpose of the project is the operational upgrade, improvement and modernization of the road section of VOAK to increase the safety of current and future movements and the further development of Crete.
Its funding will be covered by the Recovery Fund.
What the project provides
The project “Transformation into a highway of the North Road Axis of Crete, section: Neapoli-Agios Nikolaos in the Regional Unit of Lassithi” concerns the study and construction of the improvement works of the section “Neapoli-Agios Nikolaos” of BOAK, with cross-section length 14.00 km., and its transformation into a highway.
This section is the continuation to the east of the section “Hersonissos-Neapoli”, will be implemented by improving the cross section and geometry of the existing NEO Neapoli-Agios Nikolaos and is part of the overall project of BOAK, which is developed in length of about 300 km and extends from Kissamos to Sitia.
In detail, the project concerns the improvement-widening of the existing section “Neapoli-Agios Nikolaos” and will include two traffic lanes and an emergency lane, in each direction.
The project, with an option in favor of the State, includes the improvement of the cross section and geometry of PEO Neapoli-Ag. Nikolaos, for the service of the traffic during the construction of the highway and the accompanying works.
