The panic that prevails in Israel while continuing the war describes a Greek who returned from the war zone. As he points out, the decision “let’s go wherever it comes out” eventually led him back to Greece, while as he refers to his difficult journey.

“There were no clear instructions”

Speaking on Friday morning (13/10) on Mega’s show “Society Hour Mega”, Periklis Papadopoulos, a musician by profession, who was in Israel and returned safely to Greece said:

When the war started we were in Bethlehem. We were initially woken up by the man who owns the hotel because we didn’t hear the sirens at all and told us that rockets were falling. With war sirens and rockets falling very close, there was a bit of a panic,” he said.

The first reaction of him and his colleagues was to contact the diplomatic authorities in order to receive instructions for their next moves.

“On the second day we saw villages burning across the street and heard gunshots. We talked to the embassy, ​​they told us that there is a flight, we asked if we can move and they said “we don’t know”. We didn’t have any helphe underlined.

“On the third day we decided on our own that we have to leave. We called the embassy again to ask if the check points are open, they told us that they don’t know and we made the decision to leave,” said Periklis Papadopoulos.

“Let’s go wherever it goes”

As he describes, the route until they reached the border with Jordan to leave there was an eventful one with rockets falling constantly.

“What we met were Israeli soldiers, not a soul was walking around. We hitchhiked and were picked up by a Palestinian girl who was passing by with her mother. They took us to Jerusalem to a hotel, we called the embassy again, they asked us what to do, there was never a clear instruction. We took a minivan and went to the border of Jordan” he declared and added that the decision “to go wherever it comes out” eventually led them safely back to Greece.
