A citizen of South Korea Khan (HAN) was detained during a joint operation of law enforcement agencies of South Korea and Thai police, the TCSD (TCSD) crime department reported.

According to investigators, from January to March 2024, the suspect received about $ 47.3 million in the USDT stabilcoins, which were then converted into gold bits worth about $ 1 million per transaction. Mobile devices with several cryptocurrency accounts were seized from the suspect and, according to law enforcement officers, evidence of money laundering.

The primary analysis of the Khan cryptocurns showed a network of transactions associated with the international criminal syndicate, which leads a network of fraudulent call centers that deceived their victims through participation in fake crypto investigation schemes, TCSD said.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect denied the charges, saying that he was working for a South Korean company that buys gold ingots for various cryptocurrencies. His work consisted in registering cryptocurrency accounts to receive funds of call centers and conducting cryptocurrency transactions for the purchase of gold ingots, the detainee assured.

Earlier, the Thai police and energy from Chonburi’s province underwent an operation in which a large mining farm was closed on charges of theft of electricity. The authorities confiscated 996 mining devices and related equipment.
