The threat on board the plane on which Protasevich was flying was reported from Belarus – Ryanair

The crew of the Ryanair plane flying from Athens to Vilnius received information about the danger on board and instructions for an emergency landing from Belarusian air traffic controllers. This was announced on Twitter by the press service of Ryanair.

“The crew of the Ryanair flight from Athens to Vilnius today (May 23) was notified by the Belarusian air traffic authorities of a potential threat to safety on board and received instructions to turn to the nearest airport, Minsk,” the message says.

The press service added that the plane landed, after which the passengers were taken out and the cabin was examined, during which nothing dangerous was found.

The plane spent seven hours in Minsk, took off at 20:50 and landed in Vilnius at 21:25.

“Ryanair has informed the relevant national and European aviation security agencies. We sincerely apologize for this delay, which was beyond Ryanair’s control,” the company said.

The airline’s release did not mention the detention in Minsk of NEXTA founder Roman Protasevich, who was a passenger on this flight.
