If someone is shipwrecked on an island in the middle of nowhere, they can increase their chances of being found by implementing three tricks that look straight out of a movie, but work according to experts. Cat Bigney, a survival consultant and instructor at the Boulder Outdoor Survival School, spoke to Business Insider about the three castaways recently rescued from Pikelot Island as they wrote “help” on the sandy palm frond beach. According to Mr. Bigney the first thing a castaway should do is light a fire and ideally create three huge fire pits. The bigger the fire, the more smoke there will be that can be seen from miles away.
