A new lesson on the strength of the ceramic sector in the province of Castellón with export data for the month of August that once again surprised us with a two-digit growth, in the same way that it already happened in July.
The tile exported worth 250.4 million euros during August, what a 17.7% growth with respect to the same period of the previous year. The increase in foreign trade, one of the largest recorded in the whole of the Valencian Community, manages to strongly correct the downward trend that the tile industry has been dragging since the outbreak of the Covid. This is how things January to August, the tile has exported a value of 1,898.9 million of euros, one 3.7% less than a year ago, as reflected in the statistics published yesterday by the Territorial Directorate of Commerce of the Valencian Community.
With this accumulated data, the most optimistic forecasts of the tile employer Ascer would be fulfilled, which estimates that the fall in exports in 2020 will be in a range that will oscillate between 6% and 14%, depending on the evolution of the health pandemic. Thus, the average decrease in exports that Ascer estimates for this year is 10% compared to the previous year.
The good records in foreign trade of the ceramic sector in August have now served so that the set of exports from the province of Castellón change the downward trend that they had been dragging since the outbreak of the pandemic.
The province of Castellón is the only one in the Valencian Community that closes August with positive export data when accounting for sales of 546.9 million euros, 7.6% more than in the same period of the previous year.
While this is happening, the rest of the provinces still close negatively, but with very small drops. This is the case of Valencia, for example, which during the month of August exported 937.1 million euros, 0.6% less than a year ago. Or Alicante, with a decline of 0.3% in August and exports worth 358.3 million.
The Valencian Community as a whole sold abroad for a value of 1,842.2 million euros during the month of August, which represents an increase of 1.7% compared to a year ago.
