The Titanic is disappearing. Videos documenting the deterioration of the wreck

The Titanic is disappearing. The ocean liner that sank in 1912 after colliding with an iceberg – only about 700 out of 2200 passengers were saved – is slowly disintegrating. The coffa, the one from which a lookout shouted: “An iceberg, right here ahead!”, it has already disappeared, and the railing of the bow could collapse at any moment.

Precisely for this reason, the researchers of OceanGate they are returning (after the submarine exploration a month ago) to 3800 meters deep to document the progressive deterioration of the ship.

«The ocean is taking it, and we have to tell this thing before it all disappears or becomes unrecognizable, “explained Stockton Rush, president of OceanGate Expeditions.

The company has equipped its submarine with high definition cameras and multi-beam sonar equipment. Tracking the transformation of the Titanic can help scientists predict the fate of other wrecks sunk in deep water, including those sunk during the world wars.

OceanGate also means document the marine life of the site: hundreds of species of crabs and corals have been seen on the wreck alone. In fact, archaeologists and marine biologists will participate in the expedition (as well as about 40 other people, who have paid to take part in the initiative).

Bill Sauder, a historian who has thoroughly studied the Titanic affair, doubts that the expedition will lead to much “front page news,” but argues that it will serve to improve understanding of many aspects of the wreck. For example, he would like to understand where the dog kennels were located.

OceanGate he also ensured that no items will be taken from the Titanic during the expedition.
