The top investors with the ‘touch of Midas’ for 2022

Concerns about inflation rallies, supply chain disruptions and the Russian invasion of Ukraine have tightened valuations of technology companies and put several public subscribers on hold. However, recent record-breaking valuations by the industry’s top investors seem to be pushing the Venture Capitalists on Forbes’ 21st annual Midas List.

The “Midas List”, compiled in collaboration with TrueBridge Capital Partners, is the Top-100 of the leading investors in the technology industry. Andreessen Horowitz’s partner Chris Dixon is at No. 1 on the list for the first time, the two-time “king of crypto”, who climbed six positions thanks to his company’s investments in the Coinbase cryptocurrency exchange and a portfolio that includes the decentralized exchange Uniswap and the creator of NBA Top Shot, Dapper Labs. Dixon is one of the 12 members of the “List” who invested in Coinbase, but he is the only one who did it -through his company- 15 times! From a round of financing in 2013 to the IPO in April 2021.

The company and other public offerings, such as those of Coupang and HashiCorp, as well as the launch of valuations for companies such as Airtable, Databricks and Nubank, brought 15 new entrants to the Midas List for 2022. Nine investors who had been off the list in recent years returned this year. Born in Venezuela Micky Malkawhich focuses on cryptocurrencies and fintech, is at No. 2 of the “List”while newcomers Neil Mehta and David Frankel enter the top 20.

Record number (12) for investors from Europe, Israel and the Middle East with the “touch of Midas” this year, compared to eight in 2021. Among them is the newcomer Reshma Sohoni of Seedcamp, one of the 11 women in this year’s list – one less than last year record and a reminder of the need for changes in the VC industry.

Developed in collaboration with TrueBridge Capital Partners, the “Midas List” is based on data on the valuation of companies that have been listed on the Stock Exchange or have been acquired for at least $ 200 million in the last 5 years or that investors have -at least- doubled the valuation of the initial investment over the same period.
