The family of a model who suffered brain damage after a severe allergic reaction caused by a pretzel, she will receive $ 29.5 million in compensation, as a Las Vegas court recently ruled.
The jurors judged that ambulance who responded to the call did not offer her adequate first aid in the 2013 incident, according to a report in the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
“At least my daughter will be well taken care of, I’m happy about it,” said her father, Jack Giacalone, when he heard the verdict.
On February 20, 2013, the then 27-year-old Giacalone was taking part in a fashion show. A friend brought her a pretzel before the show, which, however, threw the unfortunate girl into anaphylactic shock after just the first bite.
Her lawyer, Christian Morris, claimed that her brain was left without oxygen for a few minutes when she was put in the ambulance. It turned out in the civil court that the ambulance was not equipped with the necessary equipment for one allergic reaction, as defined by the Nevada Health Protocols.
Giacalone, now 35, is quadriplegic and can only communicate through the eyes. Needs 24-hour care…
