The training of an employee who signed the wrong HIV tests is uncertain; understand

The blood tests from organ donors that resulted in a false negative for HIV were signed by a professional Jacqueline Iris Bacellar de Assis. The reports contain information that she would be biomedical, but the registration number used in the electronic signature belongs to another person.

The holder of the registration with the Regional Biomedicine Council is Júlia Moraes, who no longer practices the profession and has had her registration inactive since June 2023.

In a note sent to CNN the Regional Biomedicine Council of the 1st Region (CRBM1) reported that it is monitoring the case of infection in transplant patients in Rio de Janeiro.

The agency confirms that Jacqueline is not registered and that the number used belongs to professional Júlia Moraes de Oliveira Lima.

Asked about the case, the PCS Lab Saleme Laboratory reported that Jacqueline signed several exams in recent months and that, when hired, she presented a biomedical training diploma.

The company disclosed an alleged exchange of messages with the employee at the time of hiring:

THE CNN Jacqueline’s lawyer, José Félix, said that she was unaware of the document presented by the laboratory to the press. “Ms. Jaqueline has a certification diploma in the field of pathology. She never took a biology and medicine course. He does not have any diploma in the field and is unaware of any documents”, stated the legal representative.

When consulted, the university states that it did not issue a certificate of completion of an undergraduate course, of any nature, to Jacqueline.

According to the defense, the professional has worked at the PCS Lab laboratory, in Baixada Fluminense, for around a year as an administrative assistant and did not have the power to sign reports and exam results, which, according to the legal representative, were received by her client and forwarded to the laboratory doctor, Walter Vieira, who would be responsible for signing them.

Still according to Félix, despite working in the laboratory since 2023, his client had her contract signed a few months ago.

The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police carried out an operation against the laboratory last Monday morning (14). Walter Vieira, a partner at the company, and a technician were arrested. Jacqueline Iris Bacellar de Assis is considered a fugitive.

The suspicions related to the employee’s training are yet to be clarified by investigators.

The investigation indicates that there is a break in the protocol for checking chemical reagents, which would indicate the presence of the virus.

According to the information, the reagents require daily checking, however, to maximize profits, the laboratory would have determined that the tests were carried out weekly.

André Luiz de Souza Neves, police chief, states that the measure impacted the integrity of the tests.

Remember the case of patients infected with HIV

Authorities are investigating the infection of HIV patients after receiving organ transplants in Rio de Janeiro. The case is analyzed by the State Department of Health of Rio de Janeiro (SES-RJ), the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), the Ministry of Health, the Federal Police, the Civil Police and the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro.

According to a report initially published by BandNews FM, six people contracted the disease after undergoing the procedure. The case was confirmed by CNN .

Two donors allegedly underwent a blood test in a private laboratory in Baixada Fluminense and the results were false negative.

THE CNN confirmed that the tests were carried out by the PCS Lab Saleme laboratory, which is based in Nova Iguaçu, in Baixada Fluminense.

The laboratory was hired by the State Department of Health to test organ donors.

According to the CNN those infected are already aware and organs from another 288 donors are undergoing new testing in the state.

It is the first time that something like this has occurred in Brazil. In Rio de Janeiro alone, 16 thousand people have undergone transplants since 2006.
