The executive director of Agricultural Policy at Conab (National Supply Company), Sérgio Zen, said this Sunday (2), to CNN, that the trend of agribusiness for the year 2022 is a recovery in production that was harmed last year.
“We are coming from a crop that was damaged the year before by drought, frost and pests. These events formed a perfect storm, but the trend now is for a recovery in this production to occur”, he said.
Zen said that climate challenges remain with La Niña. For the specialist, the phenomenon brings difficulties due to its unpredictability and that the ideal is to “continue to monitor the evolution of climate events on a weekly basis and correct expectations as necessary”.
The specialist also commented on the protein market and said that Brazil has an important role in this segment, as “we are at a very promising moment, where there is an increase in the income of world economies and we are the main supplier of these foods,
“We will always appear on the scene occupying this international space, mainly due to the productivity gains that have taken place in recent years,” he said.
Finally, Zen reinforced the need for policies that enable sustainability and investment. For him, Brazil has the necessary pillars and “this has been done together with the use of technology”, enabling more production with less inputs.
“Brazilian agriculture is dependent on technology, schedule and technique based on the pillars of continued investment”, he added.
