The NS-21 spacecraft will take off on Saturday (4) at 10 am (Brasilia time), according to an announcement by Blue Origin. The flight is especially important for Victor Spain, who will become the second Brazilian to go into space and the country’s first space tourist.
Hespanha, a 28-year-old from Minas Gerais, is a civil production engineer and won the right to participate in the flight after winning a draw by the Crypto Space Agency (CSA). He bought three NFTs on the platform when he discovered that he would be entitled to participate in the selection. NFT is the acronym for “non-fungible token”, a form of certificate for digital property acquisitions.
The first Brazilian to make a trip to space was former Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Marcos Pontes, who was on the International Space Station in 2006.
The trip from Spain was supposed to take place on the 20th of May, but some problems with the rocket caused the date to be postponed – according to the company, during the last revisions, it was observed that one of the backup systems was not “meeting performance expectations”.
The company made a statement on social media confirming the new date.
In addition to Spain, the crew is made up of astronaut Evan Dick; former NASA test chief Katya Echazarreta; jet pilot Hamish Harding; Dream Variation Ventures co-founder Jaison Robinson; and Insight Equity co-founder Victor Vescovo.
“I am living a dream”
THE CNN , Victor said he is living a dream. “I am very happy, living a dream. It’s a childhood dream. Every Brazilian dreams of being a football player or being an astronaut and I am fulfilling the dream of going to space,” he said.
Asked if he would sell the ticket if there is any proposal, Victor said: “dreams cannot be sold. I am representing the dream of more than 200 million Brazilians and other people in the world”.
