The government of US President Donald Trump has asked the US Supreme Court to intervene, following a court ruling banning mass redundancies and restructuring federal services in the context of reducing the size of the federal state. The Ministry of Justice appealed to the Supreme Court after San Francisco’s judge Susan Ilston blocked mass redundancies on May 22, justifying trade unions, non -governmental organizations and local authorities who questioned White House decisions. The case concerned, inter alia, the Ministries of Agriculture, Trade, Health, Foreign, Finance and Veterans. Last February Trump gave federal services to prepare immediately to start “large -scale cuts in their potential”. In her decision, Ilston said that the president exceeded his powers. “As the story shows, the president can restructure federal services only with the approval of Congress,” he said in his rationale.
