The Ukrainians announced that they had captured seven “Russian agents” near Dnipro

The Ukrainian security services (SBU) announced today that they arrested “seven Russian agents” in the Dnipro region (east), on suspicion of espionage on behalf of Moscow. “The SBU carried out another important, special operation to expose and capture enemy agents,” SBU chief Vasyl Maliuk said in a statement.

According to the SBU, “those arrested gave the Russians the coordinates of critical infrastructure” in Ukraine and “gathered information on…the movements of groups of (Kiev’s) forces in the region,” which they passed on to the Russian military.

Their “possible involvement in the attack on an apartment building in Dnipro on January 14“, which claimed the lives of at least 45 people, including six children, “is being verified,” Ukrainian security services also said.

The strike, which Kyiv blames on Russia – which denies any involvement – and is among the deadliest strikes since the start of the Russian invasion 11 months ago, has sparked outrage among Ukrainians.

According to the SBU, the “seven Russian agents” detained began “reconnaissance activities against Ukraine” in early October 2022, as reported by Agence France-Presse and relayed by the Athens News Agency.

To communicate with each other, they “used encrypted messaging applications and transmitted the locations (of the targets) in the form of electronic coordinates with photographic material,” according to the same img.

During searches carried out “in various phases” in the Dnipro region, “improvised explosive devices” as well as “computer equipment and mobile phones” were also found, according to the SBU.
