Ukrainian forces attacked a drilling rig in the Black Sea owned by a Crimean oil and gas company, the Tass news agency reported today, citing local officials. This attack is the second blow in a week.
The platform is operated by Chernomorneftegaz, which was seized by Russian-backed officials from Ukraine’s national gas company Naftogaz as part of Moscow’s annexation of the peninsula in 2014.
“This is a bombing by the Ukrainian armed forces, there are no casualties,” Tass quoted a member of the Crimean emergency services as saying. He did not give further details.
Last Monday, Crimean officials said three people had been injured and seven were missing after a Ukrainian strike forced work to be suspended on three platforms. Chernomorneftegaz is under US and European Union sanctions.
