The British Minister of Health Sajid Javid apologized today after saying the country should not “gather” out of fear in front of the coronavirus, in a tweet that provoked reactions.
A week after announcing that he had contracted the virus, Javid wrote on Twitter yesterday that he had been “completely cured”. His symptoms were “very mild, thanks to the incredible vaccines,” added the minister, who has given both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
“Please, if you have not already done so, get vaccinated, as we learn to live with this virus, rather than to gather” out of fear in front of him, he added.
I’ve deleted a tweet which used the word “cower”. I was expressing gratitude that the vaccines help us fight back as a society, but it was a poor choice of word and I sincerely apologise.
Like many, I have lost loved ones to this awful virus and would never minimise its impact.

The phrase provoked strong reactions, with victims’ associations and MPs, especially from the opposition, judging that the statements were offensive to the most vulnerable and given the sacrifices made by the British during three consecutive knockouts declared in the country, the which with 129,000 dead is one of the worst affected in Europe.
Today, Sajid Javid deleted the tweet and admitted, in a new message on social media, an “unfortunate choice”, while apologizing “sincerely”, according to the Athens News Agency.
“Like many, I have lost my own people to this terrible virus and I never downplay its impact,” he added.
