The British Government has decided to remove the Canary Islands from its list of “safe corridors”, which will force people who return from the islands to the country to keep a quarantine.
The announcement has advanced it on Twitter British Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, claiming that it is due to the “increase in cases and weekly positive tests.” The Foreign Ministry has not yet received official notification in this regard.
The United Kingdom makes this decision a month and a half after having included the archipelago in its list of safe destinations (Germany did the same that same day), which exempted travelers from keeping this quarantine.
With this decision, as of Saturday December 12th, citizens arriving from the United Kingdom of the Canary Islands will have to quarantine.
Incidence
According to the figures made public this Wednesday, the Canary Islands has a cumulative incidence of 93.48 cases diagnosed per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days and 52.15 in the last seven days.
Yesterday the Canarian Government announced that it will also request antigen tests for residents. Travelers who do not have a home on the islands and stay to sleep in hotels have been asked for this test for weeks.
According to the Government statement, the perimeter closure of the Autonomous Community is established, but not to make it impossible for travelers to access it, but to regulate a safe entrance with these “accessible and affordable” tests.
The Government approved weeks ago to request PCR tests (not antigens) to all citizens who arrive by sea and air to our country from countries at risk.
