The Pentagon has set up a new direct line of contact with Russia’s Defense Ministry to prevent “accidents” and “miscalculations” in the region as Russia invades Ukraine, a US official told Reuters.
In particular, according to the agency, the official who spoke on condition of anonymity said that “the (US) Department of Defense recently established a de-escalation line with the Russian Ministry of Defense on March 1, in order to avoid miscalculations, military maneuvers” .
According to reports, the area of focus is Ukraine’s border with Poland and the Black Sea, while this military communication line is based on the corresponding line between the two countries in Syria.
